It seems to me that everything is going up as of late; gasoline, postage stamps and now our cell phone provider has pulled a rather "sneaky" move.

I check our sprint bill (which we have 2 phones through them) and notice the bill is $8 higher than usual.

Now that may now sound like a lot to most folks, but that will get me 2 gallons of gas in my tank.

Anyhow, my husband gets a discount through his employer and now Sprint has taken away the discount of the secondary phone (which is mine), but not the first phone....

Of coarse I don't find out until I log in and proceed to pay the bill.

Any other time they are trying to sell us something or begging us to get a higher costing plan, we get a full- stuffed letter in the mail.

Maybe they thought we wouldn't notice or even care to ask questions.

I tell ya, more and more everyday, I gotta get wiser and wiser, so we can continue to save some money; and not have our overall expenses go up.

Insurance Companies Are Some Scheming Folks

Ok, in my last post; I wrote about switching car insurance companies because my current company will only reduce my policy by $7.

So I shopped around and went with Esurance with was offering a 12 month rate for just $1,238.

That was A WHOLE lot cheaper than the $1,977 that Liberty Mutual was trying to bill us for.

So I go ahead, pay Esurance and oh, I get a nice gift card for switching!!

Today, I call Liberty Mutual to inform them that I wont be renewing our car policy with them and of coarse they ask why.

I told them frankly, I found another insurance company who was ALOT cheaper.

They asked, if it was ok to tell them how much and I said $1,238.

They said, if you can give us 10 min, we'll see what we can do.

We'll, I was kind of taken a back because I had ALREADY called a few days ago and asked for a cheaper rate; and since the best they could do what $7, I moved on.

These folks just called me back and said, we can keep your policy/coverage the same way it is and beat Esurance quote by $23 and give me a 12 month rate of $1,215!!!!

Wait, are you guys following me here???

All of a sudden, they can come down from $1,977 to $1,215???

Why in the world didnt they do this a few days ago?

Why did it take for me to purchase a policy from their competitor and call to cancel my business with them, to pull this stunt??

The agent then said, Insurance Companies dont like pulling people's insurance/driving records (which I didnt know existed) because it is a soft hit on they're credit report; so they just base people's policies on "general driving habits"...

Talk about being disgusted!!

You wanted to charge me $600+ more dollars because you didn't want to inconvenience me (yeah right) by pulling my insurance/driving record; when I called a few days ago asking for a cheaper rate??

I cant imagine all this time, my DH and I over paying because of this craziness.

We are staying with Esurance....

I'm glad I have the insider info now and it'll be going to good use.

I'm going to tell everyone I know....

I cannot even tell you how excited I am about this.

We have always gotten our Car Insurance Renewal Policy at the end of Janurary; and needless to say, I wanted to know what the yearly rate would be.

Imagine my shock when Liberty Mutual sent a bill for $1,944!!!

Wait......

$1,944???

Good Credit- Check
Excellent Drivers-Check
No points - Check
Pay On time - Check
No Claims filed- Check

So why the BIG increase?

Of coarse I give them a call and told them my concerns.

$1,944 was TOO high and I wanted to know if that amount can be lowered.

After a few minutes of working their "magic"; They said they could take $7 off the rate!

$7.00 was the BEST they could do......

I told the agent thanks and I proceeded to shop elsewhere.

After numerous quotes; Esurance (a company we were with in the past); gave us the Cheapest rate for practically the same coverage.

$619 every six months! Down from $972 every six months.

Just by spending a little time and shopping around.....

Another way of keeping more of our hard earned money in our pockets.

Watching: NOTHING! Don't feel like being depressed by the news and awards shows SUCK nowadays.

Listening: To myself chew loudly to this sweet mint gum by Orbit. I try to be polite but its so good. I think it may replace Winterfresh as my favorite!

Baking: Nothing at the moment. Did bake some Talipia for dinner and its my favorite fish! Yumm-O!

Happy I Accomplished This Week: Our Taxes! $2,113 Refund after making almost 6 figures is awesome! Was concerned we would have to pay! Thanking God for Mortgage Interest, property taxes, student loan interest and our 2 kids!

Looking Forward to next week: My DH going to a GI specialist Tuesday. Doctor thinks he may have a sour stomach and acid reflux.....poor hubby!

Thankful for Today: For being alive, our health and blessing and for God's love and mercy. Also for coupons! I love coupons!

Honestly & Easy Ways to get extra $$$$$

I wanted to write up a post about ways I earn extra money for my home.

Although my husband makes a pretty good living, still I have come across some easy ways to earn a little extra.

Earning extra from these resources actually allows us to save money we wouldve spent out of our own checking account.

Surveys
I know it may sound weird, but there are many survey companies out there that are legitimate. I had one recently call my house. I actually had no idea who the number was from and one night decided to just pick up the phone. After answering some questions, they asked for my address to send me out $10. A few days later, in the mail was $10 cash in a envelope. Since then, I sent another survey back a few days ago and they are sending me $50 in cash, which should arrive today! That's $60 bucks for 30 minutes of my time. Yesterday, I received a post card from them asking me to fill out an online survey and they'll send me $25!

Reward Points
I have written about Amex before. Signing up with Amex is one of the BEST things my DH and I could've done. Amex is safe, secure and we have no limit balance. We also carry $0 balance since we pay off the card each month.

One thing Amex has is a rewards programs attached. You earn points and can redeem those points for Gift Cards. We were nearing 10,000 points; so I cashed 5,000 of those points in for a $50 Season 52 Restaurant Gift Card.

Same thing with Best Buy. Every time we purchases something we earn points. We now have enough to get a $40 Gift Certificate!

Writing Companies
One thing I've learned is that if I have a problem; its ok to make a little noise about it.

I bought bad meat once from a local supermarket. And although they refunded my money and let me pick out another meat for free; I wrote the supermarket headquarters and explain the situation and they sent me a $20 Gift card too.

Same with Hefty. I bought some kiddie cups for my kids and some of the cups had slits in the bottom; leaking the juice everywhere. I wrote them and they sent me a free product coupon.

The same happened with Huggies, 2 free coupons for diapers and a bunch of other coupons as well.

Reduce Bills
I have learned that either reduce our bills or finding special promotions as a way to get "extra" money because we dont have to pay it.

We signed up for a promotion with our cable provider for internet, phone and cable and are paying less than what we used too for these 3 services and the current services we have now are better. Just picking up the phone and asking them is all that it took.

I cannot believe I have a cold again.

My son caught it from someone in church, which now passed onto me and my daughter.

I tell ya, next year, me and the kids will be getting the shot.

.............With that said, I am finishing up dinner.

We are having wild caught salmon, salad and oven roasted potatoes.

I'm really hungry, to say the least and my mouth is super dry.

I'm hoping to rest more so I can get over this cold, but we'll see.

Hoping to watch Alice in Wonderland tonight (Johnny Depp version) and then the Republican debate.

My husband and I find them very entertaining; especially as of late.

Is Night Time Fright Time?

As any parent would tell you, preparing a baby or child for bed is a rough task. Giving a snack, washing faces, brushing teeth, a bedtime story and finally, we wish that all is well.
At least that is what we hope.
Reality is, bedtime is like a 12 round bout with our little wee ones. As much as I try to follow what the countless parenting books suggest, night time in my home is everything but calm and quiet. If you happen to walk into my house at 9pm, you might hear crying, whining, jumping up and down on a bed, banging on a wall or just babbling to themselves.
It’s as if going to bed is like saying no more sweets or treats until you’re 18.
To help combat against this I have found a few things that help motivate my little ones to not only be happy about bedtime, but embrace it. If not now, they will when they start working!!!!
First, I’ve learned that kids will follow whatever you want them to by making it fun. We start with bath time. Crayola Bath Art Center is a great start! You can color the bath water; kids can paint the inside of the tub and even themselves! These easily washable, non-toxic crayons and paint are a great start to our night time festivities.
Next, washing them with Johnson’s Soothing Baby Wash relaxes them to the point of squeezing out a yawn or two before we leave the bathroom. Just the action I want to see; long and sometimes loud yawns from my little ones. Then we apply Johnson’s Soothing Lotion and we’re ready for the next phase of bedtime; teeth brushing.
After they are washed, dressed and teeth brushed, we say our prayers and pick out a book. One of the all time favorites is Good Night Moon! It’s a classic and a hit with the kids, plus it’s short and sweet. We then give our snuggle kisses to each of them and explain that sleeping gives energy to play outside the next day. No energy, no outside. That seems to be motivation enough.
Night lights are on and main lights are out. For the baby, Fisher Price makes a fabulous Rainforest Mobile that plays relaxing classical music with twinkling lights; enough to lure my little one to sleep.
Night time now is something that is looked forward to and now, appreciated in my home.

No More Stressing From Me...

I'm back after a little break.

I continued to worry about my breast and just went ahead and made an appointment with a breast surgeon.

I couldn't take it anymore and it was affecting my life.

I had my appointment this morning and was anxious, to say the least.

Now, this surgeon had to cancel all his appointment yesterday because he was going to be in surgery all day.

He also is one of the top surgeons in my area...so I was happy to know that he would be seeing me.

I don't think my exam took more than 5 or 6 minutes.

He did another exam and even asked me if there was a spot I was concerned about.

I showed him and he felt.

He said I felt fine to him numerous times and didnt even suggest a mammogram or ultrasound.

He did ask me how long was I planning to nurse and I said another year or so.

He said fine and wanted to see me in 4 four months; but I felt fine to him.

I have to admit I again started to worry because I figured if I felt fine why do I have to come back....but I'm not going to worry about it.

I trust his assessment. He has operated on boobs many times and knows a bad lump when he feels one. In fact I dont have a lump, just dense tissue and milk ducts.

Sometimes, I could slap myself for worrying so much.

He did tell me to continue when the breast exams, which I will.

Thank God, I can move forward and learn from this situation.

And he doesn't like small t.vs, not even medium sized ones. They have to be BIG, really BIG!

Chest Update

Ok, after a lengthy chat with my doctor last night she said that in her professional opinion I felt fine. She said I could see a breast surgeon to ease my mind.....but I felt fine.

Aunt Flo came to visit me the day after my original GYN appointment and she said that what's usually happens and the fact that im nursing explains it too.

So.... I go to do another breast exam on myself (even though she told me to wait and do the exam within a week AFTER my period) and my boobs feel fine. The "lumps/bumps" are practically gone, except for the small pebble like bumps from being a nursing mother!

I had my husband do an exam on me just to be sure and he said it feels normal and he believes it was my hormones from my impending "Aunt Flo" visit.

He also said that going to an breast surgeon is extreme if there was nothing wrong and I agree.

I will go on my doctor and husband's word and the fact that my boobs feel much better.

Now I wonder if my milk ducts were clogged or something; which I learned causes lumps too.

Knowing and understanding my breast now at 27 years old will help me when I get older.

One thing I can appreciate from this experience is getting to know my body. I have a better understanding of it and also not OVER analyzing things.

Being paranoid and worried all the time is no way for me to live and I need to trust my doctor, husband, GOD and my own body. Making something out of nothing will cause me stress and we all know stress kills!

My Love-Hate Relationship with my chest...-Update

Update*

Talked with Husband again and 2 nurses too!
I will settle down; relax and not worry.
The doctor who did the exam said that I not only felt fine but there were no masses.
So,I'll wait until I stop nursing and still do my exams and watch my breasts. My DH who did an exam on me too(he was here when I had my 2nd cyst removed) said he felt my milk ducts but nothing close to what I had when we first met. The nurse also told me, I may even have clogged milk ducts. Everyone keeps assuring me that my chances for breast cancer are slim and since I don't exhibit any signs and I get my annual exams, I'm fine. Also, mammograms are difficult to read while nursing so I would'nt get an accurate reading anyway. My Dh has mroe faith in my body than I do sometimes. We prayed and I'm confident GOD can and will heal my mind. I worry too much! Thanks guys for your words and advise.

I tried to put the title as nice and clean as possible.

Since I was 19, me and my breast have had a love-hate relationship.

1 big lump in each, which I had removed at 19 and 21.

They were just cysts; Thank GOD!

Fast forward to now, I go to my annual gyn exam yesterday.

I do Breast Exams often on my self and thought it felt weird that my breast, although no big lumps, felt bumpy/lumpy across the top.

Upon the doctor doing the exam, I expressed my concern and she said that they felt fine to her and I just have "lumpy/bumpy" breasts.

I started to worry and she said that I felt fine and I am young (I'm 27).

She also said that the fact I'm nursing my 1 year old son could play a factor as well.

Although, she said I was fine,I'm scared.

She said she'll see me next year even.

But I then start looking on the internet when I got home, which I dont know is good or bad; and became more than worried that I may have cancer or be pre-cancerous.

My Husband even told me to stop searching stuff online related to health.

I guess I expect my breasts to feel smooth like when I was a teen.

Maybe all breast are different....

I also asked her if it was ok to have one breasts bigger than the other. She said ALL women have one breast bigger than the other and it was normal.

I have some crazy anxiety issues and my husband even said I worry myself to much.

Last year, I went to the doctor so much and had many tell me that I'm fine and even one told me to "settle down".

I'm thinking of just getting a referral for a mammogram and be done.

I dont know, you guys have any advice or words?

Me Make New Year's Resolutions?? Nah.......

It the past, I have made many, MANY New Years Resolutions.

They have ranged from, not being stressed, to losing weight to saving more money.

And as usual, by mid-Feburary, I have either forgotten the resolutions or have no interest in keeping up with them anymore.

This time around, I decided NOT to make any resolutions.

And it felt quite good to be honest.

I realized that as long as I do my BEST in what every situation I am in, then that covers any and all resolutions that I could come up with.

Christmas Weekend

I cannot believe Christmas 2011 is upon us.

I can remember Christmas of 2010 like it was yesterday.

It seems as if time is fastly passing by and the days, months, and years are going super fast.

So.........in an effort to make that time slow down the best way I could, i am going to focus this Christmas weekend on God, family and just taking all the Christmas spirit in.

Here's what's on the schedule:

-Go to the Marriott for Breakfast in DH family on Christmas Eve

-Bake some gingerbread cookies with my daughter

-Visit my parents and exchange gifts (we wont see each other Christmas Day)on Friday

-Spend Christmas Eve afternoon/evening relaxing, eating cheese-steaks (its a Philly thing) and watching 2 Christmas movies, play a game as a family and read the Nativity account.

-Christmas Day, its arising at 6am to open gifts and cook a nice breakfast; then dress and off to church.

-Exchange Pollyanna with DH family then head to DH grandmother's house for Christmas dinner and more gift exchanging.

-Monday (well, for me mostly), AFTER CHRISTMAS SALES!!!!!!!!!!!! I make my list and stock up on gift bags, bows, bows, tags, cards, decor and everything for Christmas next year.

OT: Sometimes The Government Irks Me....

I mean really irks me.

I dont see how these "adults" who are supposed to be experts at what they do can't reach a decision regarding the payroll tax.

Its like these people dont have a brain!

Its such a shame that more people care about themselves than someone else.

That's exactly why American is going to hell in a hand basket.

Both parties, in my opinion, are controlled by the all mighty dollar.

The more money and influence you have the more you can manipulate the powers that be......and its such a shame.

I also found out that if the payroll tax isn't extended, my DH loses $152 a month from his paycheck!

It sucks BIG time....we need God more than ever now as man is greedy, selfish and self-centered.

On the Mend, Escrow Increase, Amex Update and More

I'm finally on the mend. Yesterday I visited my parents and was almost sick as a dog. Coughing, sneezing, runny nose and more.

Early this morning I was coughing like crazy until I took some Robitussin DM.

The BEST cough meds for me has always been Night Quill....and thats probably because it would put me to sleep and allow my body to heal and fight off infections faster.

But with 2 kids and currently nursing 1 of those kids, Night Quil wasnt the best option anymore.

This is the 3rd cold I have had in the past few months......maybe next year I'll consider the flu-shot for all of us.

In other news......our escrow (or mortgage) is going up.

We make 1 payment to Wells Fargo and everything comes out of that and gets sent to each respective party.

So that means our current payment of $1,188 is going to be $1,202 because our county has approved a tax increase. Our mortgage is the name, but insurance, taxes and other bologna varies.

Keep In Mind our property values are going down dramatically, no matter what upgrades we do (we are currently remodeling the kitchen).

Sucks, BIG Time.....

Oh, and Wells Fargo said our escrow balance was $245 short from a minimum balance they* are comfy with, so we have to send in $245 before Jan. 1st or that will divided into 12 and added into the new payment of $1,202 above!

Never mind the fact that they decide all of this at the beginning of the year and only now, in December, do they realize a shortage.

Needless to say, that check was put in the mail last week......

...............and I had the nerve to say I couldn't wait until I was grown. Someone should've slapped me.............HARD.........ACROSS THE FACE!

As for the Amex Update, the last statement was $1,108-needless to say I slipped AGAIN!

I have refocused and will not let that balance go over $450 for the current statement.

We shall see................ :-)

Other tidbits:

I finally mailed out my Christmas cards and wrapped 99% of the gifts.

I keep leaving the heat on 70 degrees at night...by accident; I am so gonna hate that bill when it comes.

Today is my DH last day before Christmas Vacation.

I need to read the bible more, because it keeps my mind at peace.

I dont understand why organizing my coupons take hours and hours.......

I'm sick or (have a cold as my DH would say).

Throat aches, tummy all over the place, palpitations, sneezing, etc.......

And I am hoping and praying I don't get a sinus infection this time around.

My daughter keep getting these aliments from school.....and this is only her first year!

She gave the cold to my Dh and son and now I have it!

Can't stay in the bed all day and rest because that would be in-human (lol)....us mom's can't have that opportunity....

Maybe next year I can prepare better for the cold and flu season......any suggestions?

Mission Impossible 1.5: The Toddler Edition

I’m sure you have heard of the action movie, Mission Impossible.

Many of us have seen the movie itself, heard of the dangerous stunts, or of the famous star of the film: Tom Cruise.

Climbing tall sky scrapers, leaping off huge buildings, handling dangerous equipment and being stealth and quick are all traits of Tom Cruise’s character, Ethan Hunt; which is my son’s name, by the way.

Now imagine a small child, of about 15 months in age, a BOY who takes after his father’s “tough as nails” DNA and you have one special toddler (and one nervous momma).

I have my own, personal little “Ethan Hunt”.

My baby doesn’t like to play it safe. Nope, that would be to easy for him.

And (un)luckily, I have been informed by numerous people that most boys are this way.

We all know it is every parent’s nightmare to even think of harm happening to their child, but when said child likes partaking in danger, one can only hope for peace and tranquility for the adult (yeah right).

My son likes to climb steps. Lots of steps. The more steps the better. And it doesn’t help that my daughter likes to crawl down head first, slide down like she’s at the park or jump down 3 or 4 steps at a time.

I’ve said “NO” to my son, constantly remove him from the steps and finally bought a First Years baby gate; which worked. It locked him away and no amount of kicking or pushing will move that gate!

So what does he embark on next; PLUGS! Oh Boy! PLUGS!

Televisions, lamps, night lights and laptops have all been violently stanched out of walls by my toddler who doesn’t seem to mind the risk of being electrocuted.

Of course, there’s a solution. No worries for mommy.

Nowadays, almost anything in a home can be baby proof, even for little daredevils. The Safety 1^st Outlet Cover worked wonders for keeping little fingers away from outlets; although with Christmas light up, it’s a little harder.

So, that takes care of that problem, but my little ‘Ethan Hunt’ moves onto something else: the toilet.

Great!

Toilets, Water and Toddlers are never a good mix. Ever!

Toilet seat slamming, water splashing followed by hand scrubbing doesn’t make for the most quality time between a mother and her child.

With my busy schedule, closing the bathroom door is often left in my distant memory until I hear the sounds of banging, slamming and seeing a wet baby come out of the bathroom (sometimes, you can’t take your eyes away for 10 secs) that I figured something needed to be done.

My husband went out to the store and bought a Safety 1^ST Toilet Lock; which is great until my 5 year old waits until the last minute to use the bathroom and has a hard time getting the lock off the toilet.

Whew…… that takes care of steps, plugs and toilets. What’s next you say…..

How about trying to climb the entertainment center!

Yeah, I know what you all are saying…This is just the beginning; what until he gets older.

Huggies Is Awesome!

I love Huggies!!

Really, I do!

It's like my alliance to Tide, Bounty and Glade....when I find a great product, I stick to it!

When it comes to diapers for my son; well both of my kids, Huggies is my choice.

Both of my kids are/were huge poopers! I mean "mess-up entire onesies", "poop up back" type kids. So much so, I've had to toss a few Gerber and Carter onesies away (BTW-both brands are awesome).

And its not just the diapers, I LOVE the Thick and Clean wipes! They are not thin and dry like Pampers, Luvs or other store brands out there. Just need 2 or 3 for the big explosions and I'm done!

Lately though, I haven't been so pleased with Huggies. I decided to try the new Slip-On diapers that they have out and have not been a happy camper.

When the diaper constantly falls off my son, poop staining his clothes, diapers in smaller sizes and non holding straps; it was time to write Huggies and inform them of my discontentment.

I wrote an e-mail explaining the dissatisfaction I had with the slip-on diapers:

Hello-

I dont have a question but a comment. I bought 4 packs of Huggies Jumbo Slip-On Diapers; size 4, for my son and have had BAD experiences with these diapers. These diapers cannot hold poop and as a result the diaper fell off of his bottom and the poop ruined his onesie. I cannot buy these slip-on's again and will just stick to your snug and dry, little movers and/or original diapers. I also used your thick and clean wipes and it literally took 7-8 wipes just to clean all the poop up from his back, bottom, legs and onesie. I just had to take time out and write you to inform you of this. I love huggies, both diapers and wipes; just not the slip-ons. Thanks!

This year has been one of the hardest in my life........

The area where my wisdom tooth was removed starte dto bleed and hurt again.

I didnt allow it to fully heal, so I cleaned it and stopped chewing on that side for a while and everything is fine again.

I have missed you all and back.

The Christmas lights are up outside and but haven't turned them on yet?? Crazy right? Its been 3 days........

I have most of my Christmas cards ready to give out and mail.

Presents are almost wrapped; it takes me days to wrap presents.......ugh

Tooth Feeling Better & Updates!

Hello All,

Its so wonderful to type this post without pain meds or pain in my tooth!!

It feel G-R-E-A-T!!!!!

Last Sunday I was hurting so bad I went to 2 separate ER's twice and finally at my husband urging, made a trip to my dentist Monday.

Got x-rays and it was my bottom wisdom tooth; with the one right above it going bad as well.

Got an appointment with the oral surgeon the next day and got them removed.

Recovery has been going good & I will be going back Tuesday for a post-op and to get my stitches removed.

Thanksgiving-

First, can you believe Thanksgiving has come and gone?

I can't!

It feels like time is moving quicker and quicker.

I'm going to try to make sure we, my family, take time to stop and "smell the roses" this Christmas season.....watch some holiday movies, baking yummy treats, going for a drive, family get together's, and just spending time with each other by turning off the out side world.

Thanksgiving was good, although with the recovery from the wisdom teeth removal, I was in no mood to host, but since we volunteered, I wanted to keep my word.

We had 23 people here at the house and plenty of good food I wish I could've devoured; but couldn't. Only soft foods or cold liquids for me.....

My husband and I were supposed to go to a very nice restaurant during this Thanksgiving break but we decided to delay that until December to give my gums a chance to heal.

Black Friday-

Despite all the hoopla, the Black Friday sales this year weren't too grand.

I got a better deal getting the kids toys at the end of October.

I did, however, get some Pots and Pans. I have always wanted a good pots/pans set and was determined to save up for one.

This year, Kohls had a GREAT set.

It's this one:

The price was $330, but on Black Friday, Kohl's had it for $149.99!

I also bought a Pyrex Glass Storage Set to get away from using plastic ones.

Here it is:

This glass set was $70 at Kohl's but on Black Friday, it was $30 with a $10 mail in rebate.

Together, the cookware set & glass ware both came to $190, I had a 15% off coupon I printed from online and it came to $162, including 6% sales tax. I also got $45 in Kohl's cash!!

I thought it was a fantastic deal and I went out around 11:45am (& it was still crowded, weird)!

You all probably know that ING is offering some great black friday promotions.

Christmas Decor-

After 4 hours, the inside of our home is festive in honor of celebrating Jesus Birth. I love Christmas Decorations....

Christmas is my FAVORITE time of year!!

The music, meaning, lights, food, husband's time off, and gift giving are some of my favorite moments.

My husband even talked about making a day trip to Hershey, PA to view all the Christmas light and go on a Christmas drive through a Christmas village they have up there!

...........Christmas is also a VERY busy time of year.

We have 3 family dinners, a church Christmas play, gifts (and all that comes with that), cooking/baking food, a tradition Breakfast outing at the Marriott (My DH father started this by taking his kids to breakfast right before Christmas and it continues today), my daughter's school activities and oh, did I mention.....we are in the process of remodeling out kitchen!!

Whew!!! I'm tired from just writing about it!

Weining-

I'm also trying to wein my son from breast feeling. He's 15 months and now he relies on it to go to sleep....it's time to stop!

I'm also trying to get him to sleep in his own bed.

I was told by my husband, mother and grandmother don't get my son started in our bed, but nope, my hard-headed self didn't listen. I just couldn't stand him not being next to me.

We'll right now, as I type this at 6:17am, he is next to me in my bed.......with his little body taking up all the space! :-)

And he has a beautiful dark cherry crib in his own room.....yes..... it's time to get him outta here!!

We'll that's all for now. We have church today!!! I LOVE going to church!!

I have to straighten my hair and cook breakfast before everyone awakes (isn't us momma's always up first for EVERYTHING!!!!!!!)

2 Wisdom Teeth Gone & Happy..........

Had my 2 wisdom teeth on the left side of my mouth removed today!

Hopefully the pain and headache from the decayed tooth will be a thing of the past.

I'm recovering now and and sleepy; but the kids are at full steam and my husband is jamming to music in the family room.

The nurse offered to write me a note to get rest; but I told her, that wouldn't work......everyone would be in the room with me on the bed......lol

Wisdom Teeth Removal

Sorry I have been M.I.A.; but I have been in a lot of pain the last week or so; so much so, I went to the ER at 2 different hospitals, only to leave because the wait was so long.

I was able to see a dentist today, because much of the pain was coming from my tooth.

Finally, my dentist took an x-ray of the tooth and saw a hole in my wisdom teeth. He even taped my tooth and I felt the pain; so, yep, both wisdom teeth on the left side of my mouth will come out tomorrow!

Everything is set up and I'll be awake. They said I could even drive myself to and from the oral surgeon; so here's to hoping for the best!! I thought I was done with the dentist this year after having 12 cavities filled!

Sucks to be the week of Thanksgiving, BUT I'd eat a bowl of soup Thanksgiving day than deal with this pain....

I can have a mini Thanksgiving another time and then there's Christmas and all the yummy food that comes with that!

Please pray for me; I'm nervous even though I've had 4 surgeries in the past.

Ahhhh.......finally able to breathe through my nose is truly is a wonderful feeling!

Last week was a hard one at my house.

With every single one of us sick, time couldn't go by fast enough.

Now that all of us are better, I can move forward.......yeah!

As for the financial side of things:

*The Amex is $687 and the statement ends tomorrow.

If you remember, the statement last month was over $1,200; so I am pleased!

It was hard and took a whole lot of saying "No' to myself, but it worked!

This will allow me to pay a HUGE chuck of my daughter's tuition, with the remanding balance being paid in December (to claim for tax purposes) which will free up another bill, without touching our savings account!

*My husband and I also have been talking about redoing our kitchen and adding a half bath.

We plan (Lord's will) to sell our home in 2-3 years, so this will hopefully add some value to our home.

Our budget will be $10,000 and that's gonna have to work......(I'll write up a seperate post about this soon with details).

*The cars are great! One thing I didn't realize until we bought the Acura was that all Acura's take Premium gas; not regular or plus, BUT premium!

Honestly though, it costs about $60 to fill up and it lasts my husband 2 full weeks, going to and from work; so not too bad!

*As for curbing my spending in general; its a work in progress. HAHAHAHAHA!

*Target/Walmart continue to lure me in, LOL.....

.....And with Christmas around the corner, cutting the spending is hard, but not impossible.

*I have been doing well with cooking everyday, turning lights and t.v's off and not just allowing the heat to run constantly without cause.

Oh, btw: our PECO (heating/gas/electric) was $161 this past month!!! I was so happy, especially since my husband and 2 kids need the t.v. on at night!

side note: You know anyone that needs the t.v. on to sleep? My grandpa ALWAYS sleep with the t.v. on, so do my husband, and kids....its crazy! Me, I can sleep in the dark....lol

Back to the post......

*I'm am so glad I bought a lot of Christmas decor, cards, etc after the Christmas holiday last year. It saved me a lot of money and not having to go out this year and buy everything at full price. I have been putting up our Christmas stuff in the attic so keep and use again!

And with Thanksgiving next week, I have been thinking of where to put the tree, how we are going to decorate the house and other things............oh how I LOVE Christmas!!!!!!!!

We'll, let me go. I need to go sort through the gifts while the kids are asleep!! And I still dont know what to get my husband....he's the type of person who doesnt want or ask for gifts!

Sneezing, Coughing, & Runny Nose Galore......

That's what my husband and I are doing right now.

We have gone through so much of Puff Plus tissue, its insane!

Although, we are on the mend.......the process takes a little longer when our rest isn't enough.

I did not feel like getting up, getting the kids together this morning and out the door.

My husband did not feel like getting ready for work, but that's life, right?

Usually a cold lasts about 4-5 days in our home and we are on day 3; so I'm hopeful this will be gone by this week's end, Lord willing.

I'm also hoping and praying this cold doesn't trigger a sinus infection or terrible sinus problems again. I have been taking Flonase and its been working pretty good; so I'm doing my best to keep my nose clear of mucus, taking my vitamins and drinking PLENTY of water.

Its currently 8pm and honestly, I'm ready to go to bed.

I have no desire to be a night owl anymore.

Momma's tired. :-)

This Kinda Sucks.......

both me and my husband are sick.

This has happened only once before and life was HARD those few days.

Usually its either myself or him, but not both.

And this comes at a time when my 1 year old son is teething in the back of his mouth, my daughter being her energetic self and work/house duties still need to be done.

Sometimes, I wish we had a nanny and this is one of those times.

We just need some rest.

When one of us is sick, the other person takes the kids off somewhere so the house can be nice and quiet.

But I'm hopeful.

I'm hoping we overcome this soon.

Really soon.

Amex Update

As you know, I tried to keep the balance this time around at $400 with $500 being the max.

Its currently at $486.80 and I still need to get gas and my DH wants to get both cars washed as well.

Looks like I'll be busting my budget, but not by much..............hopefully.

I have 14 more days before the statement ends.......I can do this!

Cooking/Family Goals for November

In addition to finance and saving money, I created some cooking/family goals for this month as well.

Here are the things I would like to accomplish this month:

1. Make an apple pie from scratch.

2. Not get stressed out about having Thanksgiving at my home (Jesus be a Fence around me) :-)

3. Watch the Grinch, Charlie Brown Thanksgiving, and Home Alone.

4. Have a day out with just my husband (kids will be with Grandma)

5. Decorate as a family for Christmas

6. Contiune to have family movie night, every Wednesday. This week it's Cars 2!

7. Finish up Christmas shopping.

That's about it. List looks good and I'm hoping for the best.

Feels like it has been forever since I've written on here.

Life sure does get busy sometimes.

And when stress is added into life's business, then things can become almost unbearable.

One thing I've learned these past few days is to not stress out over situations.

Stress only makes things worse....

You cannot think straight, you get headaches, and you throw off the balance of the entire household.

I also have a habit of thinking the worse of everything, when it's all in my head.

Sometimes, my mind worries me something fierce!

Worry can and will kill a person and maybe I just need to let some things roll of my sleeve.

Now that things are good once again, its time for me to get back to my regularly scheduled program.....saving money.

Amex & Christmas Update

So far, so good....

My goal of keeping the Amex (during the current statement period) is on track.

My goal was under $500, but shooting for $400.

The current balance is $253.96!! 2 1/2 weeks left! I can do this!!

........and we have $30 in Gift card points to redeem from our Amex Rewards.

Moving on to the BEST time of the year....

My husband and I are almost done. The kids toys are bought, 9 of our Pollyannas are bought ( we have 10 total), and our nieces/nephews gifts.

We still have a few more gifts to buy and then gifts for each other.

My husband and I have set a limit of $200 for one another....to be honest, we can't think of much we want.

Our budget was $950 and so far we saved $50 cash.....and without compromising on the gift; just used coupons and caught some great sales.

Everything is looking good.....hope it'll stay that way. :-)

New Car = Mental Relief

We bought a new car.

We are both happy and relieved.

Now yes, we have a car payment, but we can comfortably afford it and it gives us a piece of mind.

I'm sure some would ask, "why not buy a used car?"; but we just got out of a long experience with that idea.

Currently, I drive an Honda Pilot and my husband (now) drives an Acura TSX.

Until August of 2011, I drove an 1998 Honda Accord & my husband drove an 1994 Honda Civic.

Both of our old cars were paid for; so no car payments, right?

WRONG!

A BIG FAT WRONG!

Now having no car payments have its perks right?

..........no extra bills, can save more more, etc....

Now, onto the bad.......

CAR PROBLEMS!!

At least, in our case......

They say Honda cars can go a life time....

Maybe in dog years........

We'll to be fair, the Honda accord was bought brand new in 1998 and had 135,000 miles and the Honda Civic had 154,000 miles when we gave them up.

When our cars started to not start, or while driving....just stop and cut off, smoke coming out of the engine, 2....yes, 2 rebuild TRANSMISSIONS, and countless other problems; it was time for them to be retired.

The money we put out in car repairs could have bought us 2 cars, literally.

You know how much 2 rebuild transmissions costs??? A Whole lot of Moolah!

Last year, we decided we had enough of it.

We saved up some money and bought a Pilot.

Recently, my husband's car started to have engine trouble.

Then it was making a lot of noise.

THEN.....oil was leaking from the engine.

..........to fix it would be $1000.

We just got tired of this....

My husband went and found a car he liked, test drove it, etc.

I went back with him and test drove it myself and like it.

We got our money straight and bought the Acura.

We even manage to get $1,500 for the old car and it was worth just $500!!

Both the Pilot and Acura have warranties and whenever we have a major problem, its nice to be able to take the car to someone and get it fixed and not have to worry about cost.

Had a GREAT time at church today.

Kids are in the bed.

Mommy is enjoying quiet time on the computer (without interruption)

It doesn't hurt that I have a big piece of red velvet cake with the BEST cream cheese frosting EVER...

With that cake I have some hot chocolate with yummy marshmallows....

Its 48 degrees out, the house is 70 degrees inside and I'm comfy in my PJs....

My sinuses are behaving...and I'm HAPPY!!

Wishing I didn't miss the new episode of Sister Wives...

And we bought a new car yesterday (which took 5 hours), so I'm taking a load off now.

Clothes Shopping and AMEX update

Hi All

Today, I attempted to get the kids a few pieces of clothing and was very disgusted.

Why are clothes so expensive and good sales few and far between?

I was looking for a heavy jacket for my son who is a size 18 months...wanna know the price of the jacket?

$70!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously, $70 for a baby who is still learning how to walk?

I did have a 20% off coupon and although I could afford it, that is just too much.

I will go to Target or Walmart (and we don't have the best relationship) instead.

I managed to get a pair of sneakers/2 pajamas for my son and a pair of dress shoes/2 dresses/pack of t-shirts for $60.

I also ventured into Macy's.

That's another one of my "trap" stores; along with Target, Dressbarn & HomeGoods.

I was casually looking around and, of coarse, they are having an awesome sale.

.............2 SUITS FOR $100.......

Now if you know anything about Macy's and a good suit, you know that both tend to be expensive.

I saw a red suit that I picked up because my current one has an oil stain and the cleaners cannot remove it. I just considered it a lost cause and found a new one....and its quite lovely. Original price was $240; go tit for $50.

I also bought a white suit because I've always wanted one. The original price was $200; got it for $50

This is where the Amex update comes in.

Since this wasn't budged....I used my Amex card.

Current balance: $197.00
Max. Limit (I put on myself): $350

(Amex is paid in full each month)

That leaves $153 for the next 3 weeks.

We still need to get gas 1 more time
Go out on a date lunch
$25 for groceries (to grab milk , cheese, etc.....we eat everything so fast nowadays)

I'm think I'm going to transfer $100 from our savings account to cover the 2 suits...which will leave $253 remaining for my Amex budget goal.

I got some things for myself today.

Yeah, finally............LOL (Que the fireworks)

Usually, I don't buy myself anything (regularly, anyway) except for a snack or something of the like..and most of the time, the kids stiff it out and I have to share my special snack.

Most cases, I put myself last for my family, but sometimes its ok to put mama first.

I had a $30 Gift Card to DSW and today they were having an awesome sale, so I'd thought I put that gift card to good use.

I have been wanting some shoes for a while, but a style/design that I didnt have.

I also wanted something with color.

.........As much as I love black, off-white and navy blue; it does get tiring & dare I say.....boring after a while.

While browsing through DSW's website, I finally found the shoes that I wanted........in the color that I wanted.

The color was gold/champagne!

I love it!!!!!!

Absolutely adore it!!!!

I love the brand (Jones New York), the style, heel height...........just everything about the shoe.

If I could have it in every color, I would.

Staying on Budget & Law Order Addiction

So Far, So Good.............

Payday was Friday, it's Tuesday and I have been staying on track with Amex.

The Amex has a current balence of $4.04 (for a gallon of gas my husband used to fill his gas container.)

As you remember from this post, I am focusing on keeping the Amex balance between $300-$400 (gas, misc., etc).

To achieve this goal, I am preventing myself from making unnecessary trips to the store & when I have to go out, make sure I have a list, coupons, and focus on why I am there. Not venture into other aisles.

Saving and being frugal in ALL areas will become a priority!!

Here's to 4 more weeks.... :-)

Onto Law & Order........

Specifically, Law & Order: Criminal Intent.

I tell you the honest truth............I can't watch the 1st 5min of that show.

If I do, I end up watching the ENTIRE hour.

It sucks me in. Literally....

I've tried to pull myself away, but I can't. I have to know what happened.

And it doesn't help that Det. Robert Green ( Vincent D'Onofrio) is awesome. How he solves cases, how he thinks and the like, is just pure genius.

My husband wont buy me the seasons and neither will I......no need to feed this addiction, LOL.

Dry Cleaners Have Raised There Prices....UGH

The dry cleaners used to be affordable.

USED........being the key word in that sentence.

What happened?

.........inflation, not enough workers, higher product costs......???

I dont know, but maybe someone could explain it to me.

I recently took my husband's 3 suits to the cleaners.

Just 3 regular suits; nothing fancy; well........wait, one is an Armani, another a Michael Kors...just....nevermind...lol

Anyway, they give me the bill and I was horrified....46 dollars!!!!!

...that's 46 US dollars......

You know, 46 crisp $1 George Washingtons bills.......

I have NEVER paid that much for 3 suits, but what could I do?? They had processed it already.

I can tell you one thing; I learned my lesson....

I will find another dry cleaners and take the clothes there on one of the 20% off days; because every little bit helps!!

As I'm sitting here nibbling on a piece of breakfast sausage and a pumpkin sugar cookie (its 2:42pm), I am grinning thinking about tonight at 9pm........

............A new Episode of The Office!!!!!!

One of the great things about the Fall is that my favorite t.v. shows are on again.

I don't watch much t.v.; hardly any during the day.......

.......BUT..........

My time comes at 8pm and 9pm during the week.

I have my guilty pleasures and so does my husband...(he's a BIG fan of South Park)

Sundays is Sister Wives. I don't know what it is that I like about that show, but I can't help but watch it. Kody is something else.

Mondays-Nothing. I used to be interested in Dancing With The Stars.....but I don't care for it anymore.

Tuesdays-The Office (Re-runs) on TBS. Its one of my favorite shoes ever.

Wednesdays- America's Next Top Model and Extreme Couponing!!

Thursdays-The Office!!! New episodes on NBC!!

Friday/Saturday-Nothing.

News Flash: Mama Bear Attacks Dentist...........

I'll admit, I don't know much about dentistry.

But when my gut tells me something is wrong, I listen to it.

1 1/2 years ago my daughter had to have her front 2 teeth capped because of severe decay.

Paid $423 (and that was the co-pay!) to have this work done.

I was reassured that as a result the only thing I would have to deal with concerning those 2 teeth is them falling out; because the CAP would've prevented any infections, etc from getting inside.

Fast forward to the present.

My husband switch companies (not careers) and as a result our dental insurance changed.

Although we could no longer take our daughter to her former dentist, we found another children's dentist 10 minutes away.

I take her for her check up at her current dentist and they order x-rays; just to get a clear view of her teeth.

Do you know they said that she has a mild infection UNDER the caps she got?

Of coarse, I'm like "WHAT?!

Isn't the point of her tooth having all of the decay drilled off and then capped, was to prevent future infections and such until those teeth fall out?

So they are saying they want to REMOVE the 2 caps her original dentist put in and have her go toothless in the front until her adult teeth come through.

This will have to happen via oral surgery!

.....uh huh, Oral Surgery!

On a 5 year old............

Needless to say, I called her original dentist, made an appointment for THIS Friday, and this mama bear is going to have a chat with them.

I am not a happy camper right now.

This is my 5 year old daughter here..........

How in the world a cavity AND infection get under a tooth she was supposedly have had fixed, treated, and capped and I was told it should be fine until it falls out?

She brushes, flosses and uses mouthwash...........

Either the dentist didn't do a good job or is terrible at his job.

Regardless, this will get resolved and out of their pockets too.

I promise not to go in that office with my ugly face on..........

.............. but I will have it in my purse if I need it.

My Love-Hate Relationship with American Express

First, let me say before my husband and I became members with Amex, I always thought that they were the credit card (or charge card) for wealthy folks. I don't know why I had that idea, but every time I saw someone with Amex, I assumed they had "money". :-)

Moving on.....

Since becoming an AMex member I have grown to both love and hate American Express at the same time.

I love AMex because:
1. There is no limit. If some serious, "expensive" emergency comes up (outside of our E-FUND), we have AMex to use.

2. It has fantastic consumer protection in case we buy something and it breaks, Amex will cover it.

3. VERY easy to use website! This is so important to me. Sometimes banking websites lose me because its so difficult to follow and navigate a transaction.

4. The Reward Points! Restaurants, Clothing Stores, Travel Vouchers, etc......all FREE!

Now, onto the hate portion and its only 1 reason:

1. We get $1,000+ statements each month (although paid in full each time)!

Yes.....that wasn't a typo.

I'm not used to this.

Since we use the card for gas (2 cars), dining, gifts, repairs, clothing, groceries, misc., etc...it just pains me to see what we actually spend each month. It definitely opens my eyes to how much we actually spend when we use just 1 card for our purchases.

When using our bank account, other credit cards, and cash, its tough to see what we actually spend because it isn't all listed together in one place. Its almost like putting my head in the sand to avoid seeing the impending danger that's ahead.

My husband likes it this way, though.

He says it shows me how much we actually spend, he feels more comfy having all our our non-bill purchases on 1 card, and the reward points accrue faster as well.

I don't know......

........maybe that is a good thing, I guess.

I know one thing for sure; starting the next statement cycle, $1,000 will be a thing of the past.

My goal is to keep it $500 or less....we shall see!

Praying for good results & no good sales, lol!!

The small, tiny, microcosm town my husband works in has instituted a "new" tax of 1%.

I honestly don't even know what this "new" tax is for.........and neither does my husband.

Therefore 1% = $20 less each pay period and since my DH gets paid twice a month there goes $40 to some cause we may never know of.

On the same note, our township is submitting proposals to increase the sewer fee and general property tax.

This is the part where being an adult sucks!!!

Big Time!!!

The sewer fee is already $160 a year and our property taxes are over $4,000 a year......

We'll I did want to live in a "nicer" area, so I guess I can't complain but it seems everything is going up and up.

I have to become more cunning, frugal, and wise to maintain some since of life around here.

And to think, we are talking about buying another house in a much nicer, expensive area....what in the world is going through my head!!!!!!

Rip-Off Item of the Month: Halloween Costumes!!!!!!!!

Yes, Halloween Costumes.....

I have looked everywhere; Walmart, Target, Carter's, Specialty Stores.......everywhere costumes are, I tried to look.

I thought I'd try to keep each costume at $15 or less, but nope!

I saw some that were $50!!!! And that was in Toys R US!!

$50 for a child's costume is just a RIPOFF!!

And it doesnt come with everything that the kid of the package has on.....just the body and maybe one other accessory. I have to buy the cute shoes, head band, wings, etc....

Then my daughter has requested to be a Princess!! Nice, right? Except being a princess is one of the most expensive type of costumes out there. It's the dress, tiara, wand, shoes and on and on.....

My son, I'm hoping an animal of some kind. Maybe a puppy, elephant, tiger or little bear.

And this doesn't included candy for a Pumpkin party, candy to give out to trick or treaters, or a little bag or pal for my kids to put their candy in as well.

And dont get me started on candy.......

Candy is getting more and more expensive. Maybe I'll hit up a dollar store; grab about 10 bags and once its done, it's done! Porch light off and my house is closed for the evening, lol!

Oh well, let me stop complaining. Who am I kidding? I know I'm gonna go out and buy it anyway, but I just had to vent.

And to think...........Halloween is just the beginning! Thanksgiving and Christmas is coming VERY fast!!

2 Kids, $200 and Christmas......can it be done?

We'll of coarse!!

Christmas, in my family, means celebrating the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!

In that, we give to others because of the wonderful gift he gave to us.

Each year, we give to others in the hope that they will see the love, time, effort and joy we put into making them smile and feel loved.

This year I have challenged myself to shop with less money for the kids because:
1. Christmas is more than just TOYS, TOYS, TOYS
2. They don't even pay those toys any mind after a few weeks or so.

With that said, my budget for both kids is $200 total!! That includes taxes, fees......whatever, you can name, its included in the $200.

I usually like to start towards the beginning of September to shop, but was delayed.

I also will be doing their shopping online because:
1. I can get the BEST deal
2. Spending a few hours running to various stores with 2 kids can be stressful
3. I can earned points for the purchases I make online and redeem those points for a gift card!
4. It saves gas & time. I can sit at my husband's desk and just click and type!!

I made a list of what type of toy to get and how many toys both kids can get.

.................. Each child will get 6 toys each.

Listening to Our Elders.........

Hey everyone,

I'm still here.

Its has been VERY busy in my home; especially with my daughter in school now.

For this post, I wanted to focus on Listening to our elders.

I told my 72 year old grandmother-in-law of my sinus problems. She told me that she used to suffer from them and they were TERRIBLE.

She told me to get some Vitamin E & Salt-Water (which I knew of). I got the Vitamin E Tablets, put a hole in it and dropped the solution in each nostril as I was told.

Can you believe it started working!

Now I can put drops in up to 4 times a day, but this is a much better alternative than pills.

I Love Our Elders......they have so much knowledge about different situations in life.

I do!!

I really do!!!

Sometimes in my hectic schedule, I put things in places where I cant find them.

My husband will enthusiastically back me up on this............. :-)

I am even at a point where I put things away in places, just so I'd remember where they are; then up and forget. Crazy, right?? Dont ya just hate that? LOL

Well today, I was putting away the new Transformers Blu-Ray (rented from Redbox) in the glove compartment in the car because I was on my way to the car wash. Little did I know, in the back......I see a $30 Gift Card to a local supermarket and a $25 Bath & Body Works Gift Card!!!!

I felt so happy, I could scream!!!

It was certainly a nice "surprise ending" to a rather stressful week.

An update on the sinuses and weight:

I gained a pound!! Yay!! 119lbs.... Goal: 128-130lbs.

Also, my meds say "take 4x daily breakfast for 5 days, then 2x daily for 5 days, then 1 a day for 5 days". So of coarse I think, start taking one at breakfast, the the remaining 3 during the rest of the day, and so on and so on.....

Apparently, I was supposed to take all 4 at once! What? Those instructions were so confusing.

I called the pharmacist and he told me either way was fine, either all at once or throughout the day as long as its the full dose each day.

Whew!! I was getting nervous I was taking it wrong so far.

Although I still am feeling some pain, I'm hopeful it'll go away. I still have over half of the prescription left. I realize I may have sinuses issues for the rest of my life, but the nasal pain should cease.....

Drugged and Tired......

Not too much to post today.....

I am on a powerful steroid to clear my sinus inflammation and it's starting to work.

Good News: Its clearing the inflammation.

Bad News: This stuff makes me feel drunk, drugged and high.....and I never have been none of the latter.

I am being weened off of it now and pray the inflammation doesn't return....dont want nasal surgery. I was at 4 pills a day, now to 2 pills and eventually 1 pill then I'm done. I can drive and feel better when I shower and go outside, so I'm going to do more of that.

All my blood work was normal, so the fatigue I'm feeling is due to nursing a 1 year old on demand; although I am weening him too.

I currently weigh 118lb and dont like it. I keep losing weight and it could be from nursing, not drinking water and/or getting enough rest; although those will change. I will be taking time for myself at least 3 times a week.

I told my doc I want to be in the late 120s. He says women would kill to be where I am but I told him I'm not a teen anymore; I dont have a desire to be skinny, just healthy. I want to feel comfy in my skin.

He says all my stats are fine, so Thank God for Jesus. I'll get through this. And I am so grateful for good doctors who are prompt, non-rushing, and efficient.

10 Crazy Things About Me.....Don't Freak Out.........

As I'm sitting here thinking about myself, I've come to realize that I was/am quirky, crazy, and interesting all wrapped up in one.

I did some crazy things growing up and thought I'd share them here.

Without further a-do:

1. I swallowed a whole peppermint ball once. Its amazing I'm still alive and well. God sure was watching over me that day.

2. I could spend HOURS in the library. I love reading and learning about history. Before we had kids, my DH and I would go and spend hours in our local bookstore just looking through books and sipping a warm drink.

3. I used to eat the white tips off of matches. I seriously don't have a clue how this started, LOL.

4. I do not like tomatoes by themselves. I'll eat them in a sauce, ketchup, or salsa, but not alone. Its so yucky!

5. I could watch the ENTIRE Lord of the Rings Trilogy, 9 hours straight. Its my favorite movie EVER!

6. When learning to cook for the 1st time, I attempted to make my DH sweet potatoes. It didn't come out well, especially with the half a cup of VANILLA EXTRACT I added. Boy, was his palate on fire, LOL.....

7. I do not like Indiana Jones, Star Wars, or Back to the Future. My DH is the opposite.

8. I wish my feet were a size 7. I'm an 8 1/2 and for some reason a size 7 would be perfect for me.

9. I truly believe if I open my eyes under water, I'll go blind. No one can convince me to do this. Nope, no way, no how.

10. My dream job would be to fly an airplane. But I'm currently a chicken, so I guess that wont ever happen. :-)

There ya go......told ya I was crazy.... :-)

What's Goin On? Bad Filet Mignon!!! Come On.......

(This is what I was hoping the meat I spent a lot of money on would look like after opening the package)

But Nope!!

I went to the supermarket to purchase some Filet Mignon to prepare in honor of my birthday (I make filet Mignon for me and my DH birthdays, as well as special occasions).

I had it all planned out....Filet Mignon, Roasted Garlic Mash Potatoes, and Sauteed Spinach!! I couldn't wait to eat dinner and was waiting until the time came where I could start cooking.

I gather everything on the counter, turn on the pan and proceeded to open the expensive package of meat I just bought earlier that day.

Upon opening the package, it smells TERRIBLE! I mean T-E-R-R-I-B-L-E!

I inspect the meat and its mold on the other side of it. MOLD!!! M-O-L-D, for crying out loud!

At this point I was upset and went to locate my receipt. I called the store, asked to speak to a manager and told them I will be coming in a few minutes with the bad meat in hand.

I get there and the Assistant Store Director meets me. I tell her what the problem was and then had her smell the meat. She then too said it smelled terrible and we both walked to the meat department.

We locate one of the butchers and I told him my problem. We open another pack of Filet Mignon and the same problem!! We open another and although no mold, it still smelled. The butcher said everything looked fine to him and I'm standing there thinking, "why is he lying to himself".

The Store director was telling me I could open as many packages as I wanted until I found a "good pack", but after a while I figure all this meat was going to turn out the same.

Finally, I picked out an even more expensive package of Filet Mignon, got a refund on the meat I had bought originally, was offered many apologies and left.

I get home, inform my DH, and proceed to start cooking again. I open the package and the same problem; smelled bad and was rotten.

We threw it away.

Really.

It was no point............

I will not purchase that kind of meat from that market again.

It was kind of bizarre because this is an Upscale kinda place and I NEVER, EVER had a problem with buying meat from them before.

I always could trust their quality and never second guessed my purchase.

Well, that has forever changed.

It sucks because no store is spared from these types of practices nowadays. No store.....ugh

Why is Milk, Gas, Cheese, & Bread are all more than $4.00??

Please someone, tell me.

I went to the market; on the way, gas is $4.

Milk is $4.39 for 1% (we don't buy the whole milk)

Then head over to the cheese section, oh its 7.99 a POUND for provolone cheese; ugh

Finally bread. We eat whole wheat and was $3.69 for 1. Just 1 loaf.......

Its either more expensive to eat healthier or prices is just going up on everything.

I have to find more ways to stretch the money my husband makes. We try not to get too comfortable with his salary because anything could happen.

On another note; my total was $295 and after coupons/store savings/store gift cards (used from this post), I managed to only pay $55 out of pocket!!! I had 2 carts full of food and it felt great! I even had my 2 kids with me and it took almost 2 hours; which is pretty good.

BTW: When I got home with the food and started to put away the items, I noticed my son had put a loaf of Potato bread in the cart. Of coarse, I didn't realize it until I got home. I paid $3.69 for potato bread and we dont eat it. It will be going back to the store when my husband gets home. He had a can of chilli as well under his leg, but I found that in time and put it on the shelf.

Pre-K is expensive....when did school get this way?

I don't remember school being this expensive when I was younger. I guess that could be because I wasn't really focused on the money part, even though I was in public school.

Now that my 5 year old daughter is in Pre-K (her birthday was 10 days after the cut-off date, and as a result, they are making her wait an ENTIRE year to start Kindergarten) in a private school, I've come to realize that private school alone costs money, but we factored this into our budget; which could most certainly handle it.

What I didn't factor in was: a school lunch fee just to have lunch at school, the cost of lunch it's self, pictures, book fairs, school fundraising efforts, journal fee (yes, $4 for a book the school requires for each preschooler), and finally school clothes.

Is this what my husband and I have to look forward to in the future?

.......I have been told, school gets expensive the older a child gets.

I guess that's true. Soon it'll be uniforms, school activity fees, trips and other stuff. And I am not even thinking about high school or college yet........

There is one good thing though. Claiming these expenses on our tax return, since this is Pre-k. That'll help us a lot in that area.

But geez......school is like another bill. Now I see why my mother didn't pay for every trip, fee or activity I bought home; it simply was too much money.

So.......its almost the end of September and my wallet feels violated already :-)

I guess I should start to get used to that, I hear kids are the best at violating their parents wallets!

I took 2 Excedrin's this morning and it took the pain and pressure away; but now I feel like I can run 100 miles a minute. Too much caffeine in this drug.........

Going to the doctor tomorrow; hopefully he can give me some insight into managing this better.

I was given a oral steroid and another drug to flush out the inflammation, but cant take it cause I'm still nursing my son.

Now what do I do? Go cold turkey with nursing or wean my son and take Excedrin until he's fully weaned?

So there you have it. $567!!! It generally takes 3 months on average to earn enough points to redeem for rewards, but it’s so worth it, in the end! It’s a nice way to make extra money to do some of the things you like. I LOVE going out to eat at restaurants, but it can and is EXPENSIVE. I use the rewards points for GC to eat so we don’t have to spend our personal money!!

and couldn't save it, pay a bill or invest; but just buy something (thinking of doing this is real life)...here's what I would do:

1. A new, bigger bed. We currently have a full size and sometimes our small son crashes with us. It can and does get tight sometimes. Bjs sells Queen Serta Pillow Top Mattress for $350 (w/coupon).

2. An awesome vacuum cleaner. Something powerful, quiet and cute! We have ALOT of carpet. $200

3. A bookcase for the living room. We sold our baby items so we now have the space for this. $100

4. A Pots and Pans set. Stainless steel, well made and will last for years. $300

5. Silk floor plant. I love, LOVE silk plants/flowers........whatever, you name it, I love it. They have some awesome ones in Michaels, Jo-Anns and HomeGoods!! $50

There it is; $1,000 for 5 things I would purchase now. I am pretty happy with this list and probably wouldnt change a thing. If, by chance, I came under budget, I would use the rest to go out for a nice dinner with my husband!!

How Young Is Too Young to Be a Successful Housewife?

Part 1....

When my husband and I got married over 6 years ago, I was 20 years old. I had met him when I just turned 19. Right away I fell in love with him; but it wasn’t your standard “boyfriend & girlfriend” type love, but something much more. When we announced our engagement 1 month after we met, we ran into a lot of ‘are you ready for marriage”, or “you’re too young”, or “live life first, then in a few years, if your ready”.

I started to think if getting and staying marriage was even a good thing anymore. Yes, I was young and still am (I’m 27 now), but yet GOD had something else in store for us. Its funny how almost every single person in the bible that was used by GOD had a situation/appearance/background/etc, that wasn’t accepted by “society” standards. I mean, can you imagine the looks and “talking behind the back” remarks Moses must’ve received when he told his family; GOD spoke to him through a burning bush. People’s first thoughts were probably, “Moses is nuts!”

I have to admit, my perception of Housewives was quite different growing up and entering college. As a young child, I can specifically remember being told to study hard so I can go to college and get a good job. I wasn’t taught to keep a house, cook, how to dress like a lady, or even prepare myself for a husband. Many of the women in my family had terrible relationships with men and I was taught that I didn’t need a man in my life. All a man did was become a weight, that I had no job, dozens of children, no education, etc. I didn’t even want to get married because of what I experienced growing up; and if I did get married, it would be when I was older, much older…like 40! LOL

And kids, don’t even get me started on kids. I didn’t want any children. Nope, none whatsoever! Many girls my age had kids and it was ALWAYS out of wedlock, with some guy they knew for a few months. Here they are stuck with a baby, still in high school, no job, or stable future. I did not want that to be me. That was something else that I was taught growing up……..STAY AWAY FROM BOYS! BOYS ARE BAD!!! BOYS ONLY WANT ONE THING FROM YOU!!

Well, when I met my husband he was 23, gone to college, VERY smart, had a career, active in his church, dressed VERY professional (even on our first date), and extremely handsome. His background was MUCH different than mine. His mom stayed home with him and his brother when they were younger. She taught them how to care for a home, cook, manage money, dress, and behave. I had to learn ALL this, especially when we started talking about marriage. I realized that I would feel VERY bad, even awful, if I didn’t know how to cook my husband a meal, and he’d have to go to someone else or stop off at a fast food place.

When we both decided I would stay home and be a housewife, it was a lot to take in at first. Here I am 22, a college graduate…… at home doing nothing. Well GOD sure did change my perception. I soon realized that my job in the home is so important. It’s like running a company. There’s cooking, cleaning, budgeting, organizing, planning, and so much more. My cousin said that even though the man is the head of the family, the wife is the neck! LOL. That means the head needs the neck to get everything in the body function properly. It guides the head in each direction...LOL

Today, I can say that I LOVE taking care of my family. Yes, there are times when I get into a “rut” and yearn for something a little different. But all in all, I’m happy and blessed. Since I began to stay home, the Lord gave my husband a new job, 2 raises, and got a promotion…in THIS economy! When we let go of my wants and desires, GOD will step in and pour his blessings on you!

We had family from as far as 500 miles away come to attend and we all had a blast!!

The weekend was BUSY and we had my grandparents staying with us; which meant no time for blogging, but cleaning, decorating, cooking and trying not to get stressed out, LOL....

But now, everyone have returned home, the festivities are over, my daughter is set for her 1st day of school tomorrow and I am having a much deserved snack.......in bed.......with my trusty laptop!

Practical Money Saving Tips

Saving money can be difficult but NOT impossible. Sometimes having somewhere to start is a great way to saving money in all areas of our lives.

Here are some tips I thought may help my readers out:

The Best tip I can offer anyone is to sit and chat with an older person, age 60 and older. They lived against great odds and came from their situation unscathed. They truly know what it takes to not only save money but to SURVIVE. Write down their suggestions and put them to practice.

#2: Lower Expectations! Can't be a Champagne lover on a Beer budget! Buy beef instead of steak, 1 or 2% milk rather than whole, and even plain oatmeal instead of the instant kind; just buy a pack of raisins or dry fruit to add. Avoid the salon and do your own hair and nails.

#3: Wash clothing in cold water at night. Its cheaper, both the water and the electric used to run the washer. Many folks dont know that the water rates are cheaper at night than during the day. Look at your water bill to see the difference!

#4: Learn to make your own clothes or at least learn to sew. Start off by taking a beginners class at Jo-Anns or Micheals. Yes, it may cost $60 up front, but that money will pay for its self quickly. Just learning to make dresses, night gowns, curtains and sheets will save you money or even just earning to mend clothes. Why buy a brand new pair of jeans for $40 when you can just fix them with a $1.00 needle/tread and some invested time. It also can be a great stress reliever; which also saves money in medical bills and prescription costs.

#5: Find an inexpensive but relaxing hobby. It can be reading books, crocheting, scraping booking, or puzzles; all of which are found at the dollar store. Overspending sometimes occur because some people are bored, stressed, and unstable in their lives. Having one of these hobbies eliminates the need to shop all the time, can help us become better prepared in all areas of our lives and gives us an outlet to release stress rather than at the Coach or GAP OutletS.

#6: Sign-up with your credit or debit card Rewards Program. Many cards, nowadays, have these types of options in place that will reward you with a point or 2 for every dollar you spend. Since most of us mainly purchase the same things every month, you can accumulate points very quickly! My husband and I will receive $125 in gift cards (this month) from one card's rewards program alone!

#7: Don't be afraid of "Sell-by" or "Use-by" dates on products. Milk, meat, eggs, cheese,and bread stored in a well cooled refrigerator or freezer can last, minimum, a week after the date stamped on the product. Stores sometimes sell these products at a discount to unload it from the store; go ahead and take advantage of those clearance sales and save yourself some money.

#8: Change up your routine. Often time, doing the same things, day in and out, causes some folks to head out to the store, mall, outlet or any other retailer just because they want "something different". Create some spark at home by having Movie, Game, Dessert or even Video Game Night. You can involve the kids too! Everyone will have fun and your wallet can keep the money it has, inside it.

#9: Try different recipes! Buy a good cook book and try the meal ideas inside it. Create your favorite restaurant meals at home for a fraction of the cost. Start at thrift or consignment stores first, to get the cookbook at a deeply discounted price.

#10: Compare prices and dont claim any store loyalty. After all, they are out to make money! Dont forget, they are a business. With that in mind, use your hard earned money in places it will stretch the farthest; where you can get the best deal. It may take going to 3 or 4 stores, but if done all at one time (take a snack in case you get hungry), it'll save you money, time, and GAS!

The Days When Desert Outings Used to be Cheap.....

Ahhh, the good old days......

The inexpensive, good old days.....

This was when a family could avoid the high cost of resturant dining, and pick up some desert for a fraction of the cost.

Not anymore!

My husband and I; along with our 11 month old and 4 year old, went out to grab some ice cream to celebrate my birthday after dinner. I thought, "This will cost 6 or 7 bucks, max; and I even had a BOGO free coupon to go with our order!

I thought I was set......but nope!

We ordered 1 small cup of ice cream with 2 mix-ins for me (mine was free) and 3 for my husband (the mix-ins are $.69 extra for each), plus 1 kid size cup of ice cream with sprinkles and a kid vanilla ice cream cone for our son.

Imagine my surprise when it came up to be $12.99! Yes, $12.99 for ice cream and 1 was free.

Geez, not to complain or anything, but even the simplest outings are starting to get pricey.

What's gonna happen when the kids get bigger and a "kid-size" anything is going to be enough?

I would suggest the Frosty Ice-cream truck but they aren't what they used to be.

Price & cleanliness wise......they have gone down hill.

All the way down hill.

Yep; went out to celebrate my kids birthday at a local restaurant! The only good thing I can say is that the food was outstanding! Very tasty and yummy!

I wish I could say the same about the service.

There has been 1 prior instance (in my years of dining out in the US and Europe) where the service was so terrible, when my food came, I asked for a box, paid and left; didn't even stay to finish my Pepsi!

Well this time it was worse.

First, the waitress wrote down our order for drinks and took, to be exact, 15min to bring 3 sodas and 1 apple juice! 15 whole minutes! You know how long that it when you have 2 small kids?? Then she brought 3 straws instead of four and had to wait another 10 min for the additional straw. The group at the table next to us noticed the same thing. Their drinks took 20 min to arrive! Crazy, right?!

So our drinks are set and we order the food. Here's where it gets terrible.

We were seated near the drop off/pick up station where the staff goes to handle food orders. Can you believe she forgot to put our order in! Yes, FORGOT! The cook was telling her, that they never received our order and the waitress swore she gave it to them; when all along, the waitress had left our order slip in the back near the ice cream! Boy, was the cook upset and I was getting heated!

How long did it take until my husband and I got our food, 50 min!!! It actually burns me up to just think back on it and type up our experience. All the while, I am sitting there, trying to calm an hungry, overacted toddler and 4 year old because of the long wait.

Our food come and I ask for napkins as we received none. She forgot. The grilled chicken was pink on the inside. I asked for a 2nd drink, she forgot; both times I reminded her and she replied, "oh, yeah....sorry".

I also noticed she was going the back way behind our table to avoid us because she knew I was looking for her. Seriously, who does that?

The service was terrible. Just awful. Her other tables felt the same way.

We order an ice cream sundae for the kids; took 15 min for just that! Isn't it just scooping ice cream, spraying some whipped cream and adding a cherry? No cooking or prepping; takes what, 2-3 min to make?.....yes, it does.

Finally, we get the check and noticed she completely forgot to give us the discount on the kids meals. She never came back to the table after that point, I just dealt with the manager on duty.

I told my husband, after 2-1/2 hours in a place I was hoping to be at no more than 1-1/2 hours max, that the tip was going to be VERY small, if any.

My husband and I certainly tip well, especially for great service, but I was tired, ready to go, and upset with this experience.

When I saw the bill was totaled $38.61; I told my husband to make it an even $40 and leave a $1.39 tip. Yes, I did and yes, I would do it again!!!!

For the future, we would most certainly go to the restaurant again, but I will NOT accept having her as a waitress and will make my preference known to the manager present.

The Good, Bad, and the Ugly-September Finance Edition

I realized I'm a day late with this but I wanted to post it before the end of the week.

For us, financially, September starts a new era of expenses and we are budgeting in the necessary places to avoid overspending and to much stress at the end of the month.

Since my husband gets paid twice a month; we budget as a whole month, broken into 2 pieces.

Here's how September is looking:

The Good-
*Budget is complete
*Resume Christmas shopping
*Will be turning off the central air-save on electric bill
*Its me, my daughter, and son's birthdays
*Daughter starts 1st day of school for the 1st time ever!!! Yeah Issy!!!
* Earned $245 in FREE Gift Cards/Certificates/Codes-will explain in a later post.

The Bad:
* Made the budget for Christmas and although its under $1,000; at $950; its still pretty close. But we buy gifts for a lot of people, so that's where we are at without comprising on a nice gift.
* Continuing to pay for tuition for our daughter's schooling; I don't like having an extra bill so I will pay the balance off.
* Our older car, a 98 Honda Accord, is on its last leg. Its making noise and is getting louder and louder. To fix it will cost $800-$900 and that's for just one problem. Seriously thinking of buying another car, outright; no payment.

The Ugly:
* The devil! That's what he is!!!

I've been watching you.......

......well kinda. I have been peaking in everyone's blogs, "seeing" how things are. I can't believe I haven't blogged since May! So many things has happened since the last time I wrote on here.
Let's see, 1st I went on 2 vacations, family reunion, and to the beach! Whew, we were wiped. My husband and I actually agreed that was a bit much. We had a full, but fun summer!

On the sinus issue, they have started to level out! I have been on different types of meds but none really seemed to work. I had a few procedures and even a CAT scan and everything looked ok, except for some minor inflammation where the ache is in my face. They wanted to give me some steroids but can't since I nurse my son! Please pray for me, but the Lord has been keeping it at bay, so I've been pretty good.

The kids are well. All of our birthdays are next week! Can you believe it! I'm 9/7, my son is 9/9, and my daughter is 9/11; we get so many surprise looks when we reveal how close our birthdays are, LOL. I kinda like it. I'll focus on the kids birthdays and my husband can focus on me, hahahaha!

On the savings/financial home front, everything is ok. One thing I have to add in my budget, that seems to knock it out of whack is misc. expenses. With kids and life in general, sometimes, things happen and that requires money. I think I may have been a little naive about it, but I am fixing that. Also, due to our busy summer, I havent been able to save as much as I would like and I am working like a mad woman to stick to our budget and save more. Being a good steward of God's blessings take effort.

I have started my Christmas shopping in July but I really get in the swing of things in September. I have my list, budgeted amount and gift ideas. My budget this Christmas is $950; which is pretty darn good, if I say so myself! There are many people we buy for and we love doing it. Good thing is, we dont need to buy any Christmas cards, wrapping paper, boxes, etc because that was all purchased during the after Christmas sales last year!

Speaking of shopping, My husband and I are in the early stages of purchases a 2nd home. This current one is nice, but we would like something bigger. If it's God's will and everything goes according to plan, we want to purchase next summer. With our current home, we are thinking of keeping it as an investment and renting it out. It'll take work being a landlord; but we will prepare and do everything necessary to make sure we are prepared and well informed. Besides, that'll give us an extra income and we want to build our financial future, I'm 26 and my husband is 31!

My husband is doing well too! Working, relaxing, playing more of his PS3 (which I like because it allows him to have an outlet, mentally). He is so helpful around the house and I couldnt be more happier to have him in my life.

I am challenging myself to do some thing really ambitious in May. We have a HUGE family vacation coming up in August and after looking over our budget with my husband last night, I realized that if we limit our spending to just bills, tithes, a lower food and misc. budget; the ENTIRE vacation fund can be saved in 1 month. I have made a vacation budget and plan to use the money wisely. Here are some rules for myself in May:

$55 fun/dining
$150 Misc
Save $860 for entire vacation
Besides church, drive 2 days or less Tithes Continue to add to reg. savings accounts No visits to Target I am going to pray and ask the Lord to give me strength; it'll be tough, but with GOD,a ll things are possible!

Stopping in to say "Hello"!!!

I hope all is well with everyone. I am doing good!

I have been having crazy sinus issues, aniexty/panic attacks, and dealing with now a eye floater (although, I've been to an Ophthalmologist who said everything looks pretty good and he doesnt see any floater?!) I've been doing much better though, by God's grace and my husband's support.

I have been learning not to let everything stress me out and have started taking time to myself when he gets home after work.

Other than that, the weather is going to be nice today; 75 degrees!!

I also found a new favorite store: Home Goods!! I could stay in there for hours and hours! I absolutely adore that place. Although, I have learned, its not a place ot take 2 kids; I love to take my time when I'm out shopping.

On the financial front: My husband did recieve a "raise", although it wasnt what we were expecting, but he does make a decent salary and has only been there 6 months. He also recieved a bonus as well; again not what we expected, but grateful just the same.

The high cost of meds.

I finally got to an ENT doctor and she did an Nasalsopy and said my sinus infection was gone, but I did have allergies.....(guess I'm apart of the 100+ million member club) and gave me a prescription for Nasonex.
Great, right?! Except it the co-pay was $20! Yes $20. I thought that was the regular price......uhhh...nope! Try $121.99! Yes, isn't that crazy?

Also, the side effects include....take a guess...........SINUS INFECTIONS, HEADACHES, DIZZYNESS!! The very things I'm trying to get away from.

Needless to say I haven't used it yet; I'm using saline spray and steam.

Ready to get back to "work"............

Please pardon my absence.....I caught a cold a few weeks back and as a result got a sinus infection. I have never even had sinus or allergy problems. I also didn't know it can last for a few weeks to a few months if not caught in time....so please bear with me. I am, thank GOD, on the mend and doing better.

Tax Time: Are You Happy, Sad, or Indifferent?

For some its the inevitable, for others its like a second Christmas and for others they are hoping to break even; tax time is among us and I have to say I am kinda looking forward to it.

As a person who doesn't understand a lot about tax codes or tax brackets, it refreshing to be able to go to a person nearby who does. I can ask many questions without feeling "not smart" and can get answers that I can comprehend. For me that is my husband.

Regarding my family, my husband got a new job offer in July of last year and as a result a new/increased salary; putting us in a higher tax bracket. Since we've had our only daughter as an only children for 4 years and claimed just 6 allowances, we been getting maybe $1,000 or so back. However, we have bought a house, have been paying my student loans, and even had another baby; so the tax calculator is now saying $2,100!!

I am happy because I was just hoping to break even, but a little extra doesn't hurt. Its nice not to give the government an "interest free loan" and we still get to have some money back. Plus my husband get a bonus from his job that will be paid out the end of February (which is 10% of his salary); so we'll probably get those 2 checks around the same time.

As for what we'll do with it; I like to follow the G.S.T. Method (a term I created BTW):

G is for GIVE: We GIVE to GOD first. Period. He's the reason we have it and its his money anyway. This includs tithes and an offering to someone.

S is for SAVE: We pay ourselves second. Put away some in our savings account.

T is for TREAT: I want my husband to be able to enjoy the fruits of his labor. If he wants something he should be able to have it; besides he never buys himself anything. He is a selfless person.

I am a member of Disney Movie Rewards. If you buy a Disney DVD, go see a Disney Movie, or even just find a code via the internet, you can have the chance to earn some great items. Since I have been a member, I have gotten a BLU-RAY National Treasure DVD and now a Handy Manny DVD for Free. Just save up your points until you earn what you want.

SWAG BUCKS, SWAG BUCKS, SWAG BUCKS!!!! If you have not signed up with them you should. Its FREE stuff just by doing something you do everyday anyway: searching the web. I have earned numerous GCs through them with the current being an Amazon GC.

My husband does not like to dine out, especially at "fast food" places but if he does go and grab a bite out to eat somewhere, it is either Chick Fil'A or Panera Bread. Through MyPoints, which is just like Ebates except you earn points instead of cash back, I have received a $10 GC form them about 2 weeks ago.

Since we have a TON of carpet in our house, keeping it clean is VERY important to us. We knew we needed to buy a Carpet cleaner but was just waiting on the right time to buy it....ON SALE...LOL. Target finally had one around Christmas on sale and giving a $20 GC in the process!!! So we bought it and I managed to find a rebate form in the local paper and also would give me $20 back in the form of a check from Bissell; that check arrive last week and is in my purse!!

Our Credit Union (this picture isn't our CU, just a general CU from online) has a rewards club for its members. Each time you make a purchase you earn points. We earned enough to get a $25 Best Buy GC; of coarse going to my DH, since that's his favorite store!!!!

Best Buy has a rewards club as well. Every time we make a purchase we earn points and this time we earn 1000 points which gave us a $20 Best Buy Gift Certificate; also going to my DH; he'll have a ball in that store...LOL

And last buy certainly not least......

Now that my favorite time of the year has passed; I have been thinking more and more about this coming summer and that word my husband loves:VACATION!!!

Here are some pictures from our last vacation, which was in North Carolina. I have to say that going to a place like North Carolina was nice because it was AWAY from the hustle of the city; even with living in the suburbs, it still has a city feel.

I cannot believe my baby boy will be 16 weeks tomorrow. It seems like only yesterday when I went to the hospital to bring him into this world. He can fully lift up his head and neck, sit up pretty well, loves bath-time, and kisses on his cheeks and tummy.

He finds his big sister, Issy, to be rather amusing and always laughs at her. He weighs about 16lbs (that's a nursed baby for ya) and wears a size 6m. He keeps mommy up at night and loves to sleep on mommy/daddy's chest.

I love him sooooo much and he cracks me up a lot with his whining. Daddy is so proud to have a son who looks like him and bears his first name.

Kids grow up too fast and I an gonna miss these days, sleep deprived and all.

What Christmas Means To Me....

Christmas is often misinterpreted as a time for shopping. with snowmen, reindeer, and elves taking precedence over Jesus. Hardly ever does one really reflect on the true meaning of Christmas; as the reason for celebrating is in the word itself. Many do not know the true reason for the season or the real meaning behind Jesus being born. Often God is left out of his own holiday and forgotten in the midst of toys, clothes, electronics, and other material possessions.

Christmas is about Jesus being born to a Virgin, named Mary and her spouse, Joseph. Jesus was not only born to “earthly parents” who were of lowly stature, but he was also born in meager like conditions such as a manger where it was cold, dirty, and the smell of animals consumed the air. Many do not realize that Jesus “choose” this. That he choose to be a vessel in which God the father used to reconcile man to himself. Without Jesus being born, we would not have an opportunity to be with God in heaven. Jesus showed us, his people, what Christmas truly is about: LOVE! That love, can and will make a person go to whatever extremes to save another.

Christmas is about being given a second chance; its about being humble and submitting ourselves to each other; its about sacrificing ones desires, dreams, and goals for the sake of saving our brothers and sisters; its about giving…giving of oneself, giving from the heart, being a cheerful giver; its about “choosing” to be a vessel for GOD and being available for his use.

So instead of investing time and energy into buying a bunch of material items (which will pass away), we should use that time to pray for each other; instead of shopping for hours on end, buying everything our hearts desire, maybe donate to a local toy drive or even someone in our own family. Instead of watching t.v., read the nativity account in the Bible. Instead of sitting around with nothing to do, call a family member and tell them how much you love them. In doing this, we realize that Christmas is truly about love, giving, humility, and serving each other. Let’s take the time to adopt new ways and traditions that opens our eyes to Jesus ultimate sacrifice and his love for mankind. Do this, so in the end, just as God the father was pleased with Jesus sacrifice, he can be pleased with ours!

Diaper Rash: The Hidden Enemy

If there is one thing that is associated with a baby, it’s a soft, smooth….. Perfectly round bottom.

A bottom free from scratches, scars and “ouchies”.

It may very well seem as if all is well, but there is one hidden aliment that ruins my baby’s bottom and that is the dreaded diaper rash!!

As a mom of a newborn, I am currently being told what and how to care for my son’s bottom to prevent such things from happening…

…….wash in warm water, keep area clean, use fragrance free wipes, and so on.

Sometimes though, no matter what I do, the rash appears and stays for a while.

I’ve learned not to worry about it because it’ll drive me batty.

The internet has been a great tool in finding inexpensive, non-medical ways of treating and preventing diaper rash outbreaks; along with talking with older mothers and grandmothers too.

One of the best ways I have learned to prevent future diaper rash is using corn starch. It’s something I already have in my pantry and has been used by many mothers for hundreds of years.

I have to admit though, before learning of the corn starch option, Desitin was my go to ointment of choice.

It cleared up the rash in 2 to 3 days and never seemed to bother my infant son.

I also realized that using certain brands of diapers would aid in a resurfacing rash, so I switched to Huggies. It worked and we haven’t experienced any rashes since.

I would recommend any mother who stresses over diaper rash to do some research, talk to other mothers and even consult their child’s doctor for various ways to clear up a rash.

It’ll bring some relief to the baby and some relief to our minds….

…..at least until something else pops up!

I haven't done this much cooking/ baking in a long while. Since Christmas is tomorrow, there is not too much to do..thank GOD. Here's what I'll be doing:

Pound Cake
Lasagna
Brownies
Fruit Salad
2 batches of cookies
Salad
In addition, tonight I am bringing a cheese, pepperoni, and cracker tray; which I will br putting together myself. It saves me a ton of money this way.

I Know, I Know.....& Finacne Updates

I told myself I would post here more frequently, but haven't; so sorry everyone. I do love this blog and coming up with different posts, but have been preoccupied with other things. I will schedule posts so that if I happen to be super busy on a given day, this blog will still remain current and up to date.

Now with that out of the way, how is everyone? How is your financial progress coming along? For me and my family, we are coming along at a slow but stead pace. I usually try to save $600-$700 AFTER bills, mortgage, tithes, loans, credit card pymts, husband's play money, our fun money, misc, house, food, medical, gas, taxes and other expenses. I figure that savings number is pretty good, considering I am a stay at home mom, therefore our household have just 1 income. I try to save/conserve as much as possible without limiting some fun or life experiences.

As for the upcoming new year and goals; my husband and I have talked about this and have came up with 6 simple goals that will be useful for us to complete for the upcoming year.
Here they are:
1. Read the bible in it's entirety- This is something I've always wanted to do.
2. Save $5,000-can be accomplished by saving at least $416.00 a month-not including tax refunds, bonus, etc.
3. Save $2,000 for down paymt on car- both our cars are older BUT paid off. We still want to be prepare just in case we HAVE to get another car.
4. GO TO DISNEY WORLD-we are looking at October 2010!!!!!!!!!!!
5. Spend more time praying, reading, talking, and playing with my family; without outside distractions.
6. Be a better wife and mom-I can always improve in this area.

There ya go, our goals for 2010. Sounds pretty simple, huh?! Let's hope so...LOL.

Now, during the beginning of each year, we usually have some big bills; they are 2 car inspections (on older cars), registrations, home warranty renewals, and Car insurance renewal; plus my husband is turning the big 3-0, so I have to do something very special for him. Boy that sounds expensive just typing it....smh. However, we do have a little tax refund we get..usually no more than $500-$1,300 depending....and my husband does get a nice bonus in the beginning of March, so that is good.

As for reflecting on this past year, there are so many things that I am thankful for. We have been blessed more than we deserve and owe it all to GOD! He is truly AMAZING! We became homeowners, my husband received 2 raises and a promotion, we have our health, shelter, food, and transportation.

P.S. We are finally done with Christmas shopping and are very proud of the fact that we stayed within our...ok we went of over budget by $5.00 or so, which isn't bad; and that includes gifts for my hubby and I, our daughter, pollyannas, gifts for others, etc. We are VERY proud of ourselves as it is VERY easy to over spend this time of year!

Wow, it's been like forever since I posted on here. Truth is, I became addicted to facebook..lol. (BTW-if you're on facebook, leave your screen name in the comments and i'll send a friend request to you). Nothing has changed here too much; but our mortgage payment will increase by $28 AND since our mortgage company UNDER estimated our escrow accounts, we had to send in an additional $504 in to them. Also, as of this post, we are done all our Christmas shopping except for me and my hubby. I can't believe Christmas is almost here...we'll I'm going to enjoy it! Time moves so fast and rarely do we sit back and smell the roses. My Thanksgiving was very nice. We went to visit my grandparents and had a blast. It was VERY nice to see everyone again.

Been Away A While.......

Still here though. I have been in some kind of writer's block, which isn't too surprising at this time of the year for me. This is when I enjoy hosting holiday parties, playing games with family, visiting other relatives, and just relaxing.

The holidays are fast approaching and no matter how much I plan ahead, I always seem to be running behind. So far there is travel to plan for during the Thanksgiving holiday, decorating, Christmas shopping, holiday pictures, church dinner, and so many other things. I am NOT complaining by any means because this is my FAVORITE time of year; it just can wear my body out faster!

Also, I will be having another giveaway especially for the Holiday season, which will be for a Toys R US & Target Gift card. I am working on that post and put that up really soon!
